After weeks of speculation about the U.S. presidential campaign, Joe Biden, the Democratic candidate, announced his withdrawal yesterday. The end of his campaign wasn't surprising given the recent doubts about his physical and, mainly, mental fitness to serve another four years, primarily due to his advanced age. In the field of longevity, we often view the presence of older individuals in high executive roles as a positive indicator of human progress in life expectancy and quality of life. However, witnessing the cognitive decline of someone with such immense responsibilities in real-time is a stark reminder of the urgent need to mitigate this decline as much as possible. Biological age catches up with everyone, but the potential for intervention, especially in cognition, is immense. From an early age, a focus on diet, cognitive exercises, and physical activity can provide direct and indirect benefits in memory, for exemple, that are crucial. These are practices we should integrate into our lives early on, and we give you some examples in the following videos of strategies that anyone can implement. Combining these efforts with others focused on the other aspects of health in longevity is essential to ensure we age as favorably as possible.
