Today marks the beginning of July, which for many will be the month they enjoy a well-deserved summer vacation. For others, the wait might be a bit longer, but rest assured, the holidays will soon arrive. We sincerely hope you make the most of this time. Vacations should be a time to rest and recharge, and it's crucial to completely disconnect from work and other potentially stressful aspects of our lives. When we bring work into our vacations and promise ourselves that we'll only dedicate a tiny fraction of a day to it, we know we're lying to ourselves, and its shadow ends up lingering throughout what should be a time of unwinding. In several previous texts, we've emphasized the need to have buffer zones during our workdays that allow for such decompression. However, over the course of an entire year, it's vital to have one or more extended periods of several days that also serve as larger buffer zones to enhance our recovery.
Of course, we shouldn't go to extremes by completely changing our routines during vacations. It's not necessary to stop waking up at 6:00 AM only to wake up six hours later. We can indulge in some foods or drinks that we don't typically consume during our workdays, if that brings us some joy, but without completely sabotaging our diet. Exercise doesn't need to be as strict as usual, but in appropriate amounts, it can be an excellent complement to the relaxing time we enjoy on vacation.
