There is something that can easily be missed by those who are not used to be aware of it. It only takes paying attention to those around us. However, our gaze must be trained. Once we learn to recognise it, we never overlook it again. I’m talking about charisma (particularly, its physical expression). To make it easier, let’s think of public figures: Michael Jordan, Michelle and Barack Obama, Meryl Streep. Each of them is, of course, unique. But consider their body language. In their own way, their presence fills any space they enter, captures the attention of others, and provokes reactions. When we easily recognise charisma, whether in public figures or in those we encounter in daily life, we can quickly associate it with the success they have in some aspect of their lives at that moment. In this sense, emulating some of these attitudes can be useful for all of us. I’m not saying that we all need to be charismatic or the best at every particular aspect of our lives. Not at all. But an open smile, an expansive posture, an articulate and effective way of speaking, or even a healthy dose of dominant attitude can, when used at the right moment, work wonders for us. There are times to be discreet, times to withdraw, and times to stand out. In this case, as in other aspects of life, following good examples will only help us do it in the best way.
